The dogs were here first.

Onyx, a puppy in the truck.

Onyx came home a black Great Dane puppy, white paws on the console, riding in someone’s lap. She grew up on this land — a stick in her mouth in the pasture, then stretched out in the grass by a small tree, pink collar, tongue out.

She is about seven now. The white and grey frosting on her muzzle is the part the camera caught later.

King joins. He uses Onyx as furniture.

King was merle and white — heavy harlequin spots, not Apona’s quieter wash. Pops — George Fields — held him as a pup on the porch in a blue shirt. In the kitchen that August, King draped himself over Onyx’s back like a rug that had opinions.

He is the cover Dane of the 2027 calendar. That is the same dog. He was going to be a breeder. We lost him January 27, 2025.

King and Onyx have a litter.

December 2023. Onyx on a blue blanket with newborns against her. King was the sire. Stinker came from that litter. That is the bloodline still in this house.

Stinker stays.

Stinker is King and Onyx’s son. Black like his mom, younger, less white on the face. He will be three in December. He has been with the family since December 2024. He is the dog on the sand, and the dog on the ornament in the Pets Helping Pets shop.

Why a formal rescue.

Giant dogs. Giant vet bills. Apona is seven, the paler merle — the chin on the table. Onyx is seven. Stinker will be three in December. Penelope is ten, the brown boxer on the deck. We lost King on January 27, 2025. The family stays in the house. We are raising money for an outdoor facility built for special rescue Danes.

Pasco County treats ten or more dogs at one property as a large kennel. This is agricultural land in unincorporated Pasco, Zephyrhills mailing city. There is no kennel building, and we are not going to pretend a house can swallow every Dane that needs a bed.

A corporation with a foster network is how you take the next dog without turning one property into a facility. That is the work in front of us. Papers are in formation. The dogs already eat.
